According to Local 10 News, two more BSO deputies have been suspended in the ongoing Scott Rothstein investigation. The officers in question are currently paid pending the suspension.
The reasons for the suspension are not yet known according to criminal defense lawyer William Moore. Nothing has been told to either Lieutenant Frank Ballante or Sargent Matthew Baldwin.
-I’m suspended with pay but I have not been informed what the allegations (are),- claims Ballante an almost 30 year veteran with the Broward Sheriff’s Office. The high ranking officers were told little more than the suspension was due to ‘conduct unbecoming’.
Ballante claims to have never known convicted ponzi schemer Rothstein personally, however does know
Norman asked Ballante, a 26-year veteran who was the second-highest ranking member in BSO’s Tamarac bureau, if his suspension was tied to the Rothstein investigation.
‘conduct unbecoming’
Ballante said he had no connection to Rothstein personally but acknowledged he knew both Lt. David Benjamin and Detective Jeff Poole, who were recently convicted in federal court for providing illegal favors to Rothstein and otherwise abusing their policing powers. Both Benjamin and Poole have agreed to cooperate with authorities in the ongoing investigation.

Sources claim that the second suspended officer, Sargent Matthew Baldwin may have been the supervisor who signed off on an alleged false arrest tied to the Rothstein case. Criminal Defense attorney’s claim that the signing off may have been based on representations of officers who were trusted at the time.
These officer’s may not have intentionally done anything wrong claims Attorney William Moore. Currently the Broward Sheriff’s Office isn’t disclosing anything.
